TRIFEXTRA: The Right Call

This post is in response to Trifecta's Trifextra Weekend Challenge.

This week, you're all starting with the same 5 words and your task is to turn it in to your own story in only 33 words. The 5 we have given you are NOT to be counted in the 33 words. The sentence to respond to is: "The phone rang at 4am."

The Right Call

The phone rang at 4am. Slurred words followed by sobs of apologies on
the other end. He listened intently for details. Paternal relief flowed through his very being. He chose pride over anger. “I’ll be right there, Sweetie.”

  1. Ah, this is something my husband fears when our kids are older. But he's always said he will not be angry if they need a ride home, no matter the reason.

    Nice piece

  2. This is great. What a wonderful story you have told here in only 33 words. A masterpiece, if I may say so myself. Now I know why you have that richly deserved Trifecta winner's badge on the side of your blog there! What a great and well-written story this is. The emotions here are just perfect.

  3. Realistic. Sobs, embarrassment on her end, disappointment yet relief on his end. All clear and ringing true (no pun intended!) Good job.

  8. I really pray this is how I react should I ever get the same call. I like the struggle you highlight here. I WANT to be this parent; I hope I'm up to the challenge.
