Ketchup With Us: Prompt #3

Mags: "Mama, did you do anything naughty when you were little?"
Me: "Of course. I was learning. Just like the time when...."

There once was this 2 Liter bottle of Orange Crush soda in our fridge. I asked my mom if I could have some and she gave the typical,
"No, it's too close to dinner. Plus, I got that special for Dad."

Darn it! I should have asked my dad. He is the 'give you the shirt off his back' kind of guy and then he buys you two extras in case you hit a rain storm or tornado on the way home (you never know).

But every single time I opened the fridge it called to me.

"Mel...I'm delicious. I'm off limits. No one is looking!"

So, I did it. I pulled that nectar of the gods out of the fridge, unscrewed the top and drank it straight from the bottle. One little problem. I was chewing gum at the time and when I brought the bottle back down, my gum fell out of my mouth and PLOP! Yep.

Maybe no one would notice the large, pink piece of Bubble Yum in the bottom of the bottle? I quickly screwed back on the top and stuck it back in the fridge. I was in the clear...for now. I went about my 8-year-old business, completely forgetting about this little folly.

Then at dinner, my dad went to get himself a drink. And sure enough he held up the bottle, studying what was the hardened mass at the bottom. Then he looked at me. I looked at him. I was caught. There was no escape. But then he didn't say a thing. He poured himself a glass...not leading on that anything was wrong. But of course later, the guilt in me built up and I confessed all the sorted details of my sin to my mom....who laughed AT me for a good minute or two. I would have, too.

And that's one of my MANY times being caught.

I asked Michele to share a past mishap, but all I got was laughter
and "I'll have to think REALLY hard, Mel." So feel free to drop
by her post (here) and see if she came up with anything.

For a quick explanation of the link-up, click here. In short, Michele and I will post a picture or video with a writing prompt on the 1st and 15th of every month. All you need to do is respond in whatever form strikes your fancy. Be creative. And, with each prompt, we'll feature a writer from the previous link-up. Which reminds me, we're happy to honor one of the only boys brave enough to link up last week.
